Head of Department: Dr. Jitendra Kumar (21.02.2021-20.02.2024)

The department of Horticulture was established in 1970 to impart teaching and research to M.Sc. M.Phil. and Ph.D. with specialization in Pomology, Floriculture and Olericulture. Since the establishment of the department, >310 and 60 students of the department of Horticulture have obtained M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees, respectively.About112 research papers have been published in different reputed national and international journals. The department has strong research- oriented infrastructure. The department has also focus on research and extension activities related to the current burning issues of all facets of horticulture. The department actively engaged in plantation and landscaping activities to make the campus ecofriendly and lush green. Recently, the department of horticulture demarked most of the plant species existing in the campus by GI tags and QR code. Besides this, faculty members also undertake extension work in horticulture in the nearby areas. The faculty members provide free consultation, technical advice towards development of the campus, nearby farms and assistance to farmers.

  • Develop and maintain ecofriendly and lush green area in campus:

The horticultural activities for landscaping and beautification of CCS University was started with constitution of department of Horticulture in 1970. Towards the ecological diversification and sustainable land use practice, a total of more than 15000 plant saplings of different horticultural species have been planted in various sites in last 5 decades through routine and special plantation drives organized by the Horticulture Department of CCS University, on various national and international events/occasions with active participation from university communities and guests. During last 10 years, landscaping and gardening works in most of the prime locations of the University campus like front side of Entrance gate, different Administrative and Academic buildings& Departments, Central Evaluation Building, SCRIET, Play Grounds, Road Side Boundaries of the University, Guest House, Central Library, Auditorium, Vice-Chancellor’s residence etc. and other amenity centers have been completed. The roads and paths are to be formally planted with medium to tall flowering-ornamental plants.

  • QR coding and Geo-tagging of major horticultural species:

Recently, the department of horticulture demarked most of the plant species existing in the campus by GI tags and QR code.Geo-tagging, as the name suggests, tags the location of the plant and the user also gets a chance to upload pictures. This data usually consists of latitude and longitude coordinates, but can also include altitude, bearing, distance, accuracy data, names of places, even a time stamp. The main objective of geo-tagging is to check falsification of plantation claims. Similarly, QR codes are easy to scan and get the detailed information about the concerned plant with in a short time.
